I recently completed an interesting commission for a client who teaches needlework. She holds classes during which people learn new needlework skills by working on projects.
She had seen photos of an old Nantucket whirlygig that appeared to be made of wood and she redesigned it to allow the body to be made using needlework techniques. There was still a need for some wooden parts however, so she contacted me several months ago asking if I would be interested in producing them. I said I would and set out to find ways to make them efficiently since each project kit required six different parts and she needed 22 kits in all; a total of 132 parts.
